If you buy for a federal agency, FedRAMP is not one requirement among many. It is the gate. A platform that has not been through it cannot be bought, no matter how good the demo was. Here is who actually holds an authorization, at which impact level, and where the fine print bites.
Far fewer contact center platforms are FedRAMP authorized than vendor marketing suggests, and the list at the High impact level is very short. Content Guru and Amazon Connect hold High. NICE CXone, Genesys Cloud CX, Talkdesk, and Zoom hold Moderate. Five9, one of the biggest names in the market, says on its own site that it is still working toward Moderate. Two details decide most federal deals: the authorization applies to a separate government instance rather than the commercial product, and In Process is not the same thing as authorized.
FedRAMP is the U.S. government's standard security assessment for cloud services. One vendor gets assessed once, and every federal agency can reuse that work instead of running its own review. That reuse is the whole point. It is why an agency can stand up a cloud contact center in months rather than years, and why a platform without an authorization is effectively unbuyable in federal.
There are three impact levels, and the difference is about consequences rather than features.
A breach would cause limited harm. Rare for contact centers, because even a basic support line handles personal information about citizens.
A breach would cause serious harm. This is the workhorse level and covers roughly three quarters of everything on the FedRAMP Marketplace. Most agency contact centers land here.
A breach would cause severe or catastrophic harm. Used for law enforcement, emergency services, health records, and financial data. Substantially more controls, which is why almost no contact center platform holds it.
Statuses below reflect public vendor announcements and FedRAMP Marketplace listings as of July 2026. Authorizations move, so treat this as a starting point and confirm the live listing before you commit to anything.

Vendors run a separate government cloud, often under a different product name. Talkdesk CX Cloud Government Edition and Zoom for Government are not the products a commercial buyer gets. Confirm which system your quote is actually for.
In Process means the vendor has a sponsor and is working through assessment. An agency cannot inherit it. If you need an Authority to Operate this fiscal year, an In Process vendor does not get you there.
Authorization covers a defined system boundary. A vendor can be authorized for core routing while workforce management, an AI add-on, or a recording tool sits outside it. Ask for the module list, not the logo.
New AI and omnichannel features usually ship commercially first and reach the government environment later, if at all. Scope against what is available in the authorized environment today.
Several authorized environments run in one region only. That is fine until someone hands you a disaster recovery or data residency requirement that assumes two. Check early, not at security review.
If your agency genuinely needs High, the shortlist is two platforms, not ten. That constraint should shape the whole evaluation from day one rather than emerging halfway through a bake-off.
Decide your impact level before you build a shortlist, because it changes the shortlist completely. At High you are choosing between two platforms with very different shapes: Content Guru storm, a full suite inside one boundary, and Amazon Connect, a set of building blocks you assemble. At Moderate you have real choice and can evaluate on capability again. Wherever you land, get the package ID and the module list in writing before the demo impresses anyone. The commercial tenant your business would normally buy is not the authorized system. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake in a federal contact center purchase.

Not usually as a legal requirement, since FedRAMP is a federal program. Many state, local, and education buyers still use it as a shortcut for security diligence, and some state programs borrow from it directly. If you are a SLED buyer, ask whether the vendor holds FedRAMP, a state equivalent, or neither, and what that means for your own review.
Five9 has not completed the process. Its government page states a commitment to obtaining FedRAMP Moderate, and its government offering, Five9 Blue, currently rests on PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2 Type 2 instead. Five9 remains a strong platform in commercial and in many state and local situations. It is simply not a federal option until that authorization lands.
